A devastating fire tore through a guest house in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday morning, leaving at least 21 people dead and several others injured in one of the city’s deadliest fire incidents in recent years.
The blaze erupted at Flourish Stay B&B, located in the congested Hauz Rani locality, triggering panic among guests and nearby residents.
Large-Scale Rescue Operation
Emergency teams rushed to the scene shortly after the fire was reported and launched an extensive rescue operation. More than 40 people were safely evacuated from the building and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Officials said 21 victims were declared dead after being brought to medical facilities. Several others remain in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could increase.
Foreign Nationals Among Victims
Authorities indicated that a number of those who lost their lives were foreign nationals, with many believed to be from countries in Central Asia and Africa. Efforts are underway to establish the identities of all victims and inform their families.
Initial Confusion Over Fire Location
Early reports suggested that the fire had broken out at a nearby restaurant. However, police later clarified that the incident occurred inside the guest house and not at the restaurant as initially believed.

Investigators have begun examining the site to determine how the fire started. Officials said the exact cause of the blaze remains unknown and a detailed inquiry will be conducted.
