Education reform advocate Sonam Wangchuk has announced that he will participate in a planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar on June 6, linking his support for the protest to broader concerns about the state of India’s education system and the implementation of key reforms.
In a video message, Wangchuk said he had interacted with organisers of the campaign and decided to lend his support after reviewing information shared by them. He invited students, parents and concerned citizens to join the gathering in the national capital.
Raises Questions Over Education Delivery
While acknowledging recent controversies surrounding competitive examinations, Wangchuk argued that deeper structural issues in education deserve equal attention. He said that despite the introduction of ambitious policies, including the New Education Policy, the real challenge lies in ensuring effective implementation at the grassroots level.
Drawing on his decades-long involvement in education initiatives, particularly in remote regions, Wangchuk expressed concern that many government schools continue to face significant challenges despite policy reforms aimed at improving learning outcomes.
Focus on Future Generations
Wangchuk linked the debate to India’s long-term development goals, stating that the quality of education received by today’s children will play a decisive role in shaping the country’s future. According to him, progress depends not only on policy announcements but also on consistent execution and measurable results on the ground.
Calls for Political Accountability
The education reformer also called for greater accountability within the education sector in the wake of examination-related controversies. He said public confidence in the system must be restored through corrective measures and institutional reforms.
Wangchuk indicated that he expects a response from the government in the coming days and confirmed that he intends to be present at the June 6 gathering in Delhi if concerns raised by protesters remain unresolved.
The planned demonstration is expected to draw attention to issues ranging from examination management and transparency to the broader implementation of education reforms across the country.
