Governor Accepts Siddaramaiah’s Resignation; DK Shivakumar Set to Lead Karnataka in Major Congress Shift

Karnataka leadership transition moves forward after resignation accepted

A major political transition in Karnataka gathered pace after Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot reportedly accepted the resignation of senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah, formally ending his tenure as Chief Minister.

The resignation acceptance came after the Governor returned to Bengaluru and reviewed the letter submitted earlier at Raj Bhavan through his office. Siddaramaiah had handed over his resignation to the Governor’s Special Secretary following consultations with the Congress high command.

DK Shivakumar likely to take oath soon

Attention has now shifted to Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who is widely expected to assume charge as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. Political sources indicated that the swearing-in ceremony could take place within the next few days as the Congress finalises government restructuring plans.

The leadership change follows prolonged political discussions and internal negotiations within the Karnataka Congress unit regarding power-sharing and future political strategy in the state.

Siddaramaiah backs smooth transition in government

Sources indicated that Siddaramaiah urged party legislators and cabinet colleagues to support Shivakumar during the transition process. The outgoing Chief Minister reportedly conveyed his decision during meetings with senior ministers and lawmakers before officially stepping down.

Speaking after his resignation, Siddaramaiah said he respected the Congress leadership’s decision and maintained that the stability and interests of Karnataka remained his priority.

Congress high command played key role in decision

The leadership transition followed a series of high-level meetings in Delhi involving Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar and senior Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, KC Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala.

According to political sources, the party leadership sought a structured leadership transition aimed at maintaining unity within the state government ahead of future elections and parliamentary contests.

Siddaramaiah declines national role offer

During interactions with the media, Siddaramaiah revealed that he had been offered an opportunity to move to national politics through a possible Rajya Sabha role. However, he said he preferred remaining active in Karnataka politics after receiving a direct mandate from the people of the state.

The former Chief Minister also thanked Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge for giving him the opportunity to lead Karnataka twice.

Congress government retains majority in Karnataka

Despite the leadership shift, the Congress government continues to enjoy a comfortable majority in the Karnataka Assembly, ensuring that the transition is expected to take place without constitutional or political instability.

Political observers believe the upcoming cabinet formation under DK Shivakumar could bring significant changes to the state’s power structure and administrative priorities.
