CBI takes former judge Giribala Singh into custody
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested former judge Giribala Singh in connection with the death investigation of actor and model Twisha Sharma, intensifying one of Madhya Pradesh’s most high-profile criminal probes.
CBI officials reached Giribala Singh’s residence in Bhopal on Thursday morning, where she was reportedly questioned for several hours before being formally taken into custody. Heavy police deployment was seen outside the residence as media personnel gathered at the location following the development.
High Court order paved way for arrest
The arrest comes shortly after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled anticipatory bail protection granted to Giribala Singh. The court reportedly took note of factual aspects and allegations linked to the ongoing investigation while passing its order.
In another major development, a Bhopal court handed over the custody of Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, to the CBI for further interrogation in the matter.
Twisha Sharma was found dead months after marriage
Twisha Sharma, known in modelling and entertainment circles, had married Samarth Singh only a few months before her death. She was later found dead at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal under suspicious circumstances.
According to reports, Twisha had allegedly shared concerns about her marital life and the behaviour of family members in conversations with close friends and relatives before her death. These details later became an important part of the investigation.
Parents demanded independent investigation
Initially, local police were handling the case, but Twisha’s family repeatedly demanded a central agency probe. Her parents alleged that influential connections could interfere with the fairness of the investigation and sought intervention from the state government.
The family later met Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and requested a CBI inquiry into the case. Following the demand, the state government extended support for a federal investigation and issued the necessary notification.
Supreme Court directed CBI to take over probe
The case was subsequently transferred to the CBI after directions from the Supreme Court. The agency re-registered the FIR originally lodged at Katara Hills police station and began collecting evidence, documents, and digital records linked to the case.
CBI officers also revisited the Singh family residence in the Katara Hills area, where Twisha Sharma was found dead, as part of the forensic and crime scene examination process.
