TMC Chief Launches Fresh Offensive Against BJP After Election Setback
Days after suffering a major electoral defeat in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee has launched a sharp political attack on the BJP-led Central government, declaring that the ruling party at the Centre would eventually be “removed from power.”
The remarks came during a closed-door meeting with Trinamool Congress legislators at Kalighat, where the party leadership reportedly reviewed the Assembly election outcome and discussed its future political strategy after losing power in the state for the first time in 15 years.
Mamata Targets Centre Over ‘Bulldozer Politics’
According to party insiders, Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP government of undermining constitutional values and targeting vulnerable communities through aggressive administrative actions.
She reportedly raised concerns over eviction drives against hawkers and alleged that minority communities were being selectively targeted under what the TMC described as “bulldozer politics.”
The former Chief Minister also signalled that the defeat in West Bengal would not weaken the party’s larger political fight against the BJP at the national level.
BJP’s Massive Bengal Victory Reshapes State Politics
The BJP secured a sweeping victory in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections, winning 207 seats and ending the Trinamool Congress’s uninterrupted 15-year rule in the state.
The TMC, which had dominated Bengal politics for over a decade, was reduced to 80 seats in one of the most dramatic political shifts in recent state history.
Political observers believe the result has significantly altered Bengal’s political landscape and triggered internal churn within the Trinamool Congress leadership.
Abhishek Banerjee Signals Aggressive Opposition Strategy
Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee also adopted a confrontational tone during the meeting, making it clear that the party would continue its political battle against the BJP despite increasing pressure.
He reportedly stated that intimidation, notices or political action against him would not force him to retreat from opposing the BJP.
Abhishek Banerjee also targeted the new BJP government in West Bengal and questioned the political credibility of the current leadership in the state.
TMC Plans Street Protests Across Kolkata
As part of its post-election strategy, the Trinamool Congress is now preparing for public protests against what it describes as rising “bulldozer culture” and post-poll violence under the BJP government.
According to party leaders, demonstrations are scheduled to be held in multiple parts of Kolkata and nearby regions, including areas around Ballygunge, Howrah Junction and Sealdah railway station.
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said the protests would focus on alleged forced evictions of hawkers and incidents of political violence following the election results.
Political Battle in Bengal Enters New Phase
The sharp rhetoric from Mamata Banerjee and the TMC leadership indicates that the party is preparing for an aggressive opposition role despite its electoral defeat.
Analysts believe the coming months could witness heightened political confrontation between the BJP government in West Bengal and the Trinamool Congress as both sides attempt to consolidate support ahead of future national and local elections.
The latest developments also suggest that Bengal’s political atmosphere is unlikely to cool down anytime soon despite the decisive election outcome.
