A shocking late-night shooting near Madhyamgram has triggered major political outrage in West Bengal after Chandra, a close aide and personal assistant to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was killed in what eyewitnesses described as a “targeted and pre-planned attack.”
According to local accounts, unidentified assailants opened fire on Chandra’s vehicle at close range before fleeing the scene. He later died while undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
Eyewitness Describes Sudden Ambush
A person who witnessed the incident claimed the attackers appeared highly trained and executed the shooting with precision.
Speaking about the incident, the eyewitness said the victim’s car abruptly stopped while passing through the area before a bike-borne attacker approached and began firing from the left side of the vehicle.
“The attack looked completely planned. The shooter acted like a professional and escaped within seconds. The firing happened from point-blank range and I heard two gunshots,” the eyewitness said.
The witness further stated that the incident took place between 10:30 pm and 11 pm, only a few hundred metres away from a hospital. Local residents reportedly rushed the injured victims to the medical facility. The driver of the vehicle was also injured in the firing.
BJP Alleges Political Conspiracy
Senior BJP leader Agnimitra Paul alleged that the killing could have political links and said party workers were deeply disturbed by the incident.
She stated that CCTV footage from the area was being examined and described Chandra as a trusted member of the opposition leader’s team.
“Chandra managed several important responsibilities at the office of the Leader of Opposition and was closely connected with party MLAs,” she said.
Paul also questioned why someone with no direct political profile would be targeted in such a brutal manner and claimed that anger was growing among BJP supporters following the killing.
She further alleged that attacks on BJP workers had increased, mentioning that one booth-level worker was recently injured in a knife attack and remains hospitalised.
Suvendu Adhikari Calls It ‘Cold-Blooded Murder’
Reacting to the incident, Suvendu Adhikari termed the killing a “cold-blooded and pre-planned murder.”
While urging party supporters to remain calm, Adhikari said those responsible would eventually face legal action and justice would be ensured.
The BJP leader has demanded a thorough investigation into the shooting and accountability for those involved.
TMC Condemns Incident, Seeks CBI Investigation
The ruling All India Trinamool Congress also condemned the killing and called for an impartial investigation.
Party leaders reportedly demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the case, saying the truth behind the murder should come out quickly.
The incident has intensified political tensions in West Bengal, with both the BJP and TMC exchanging accusations while police continue investigating the motive behind the attack.
