BJP Storms Past 200 in Bengal
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has delivered a massive electoral surge in West Bengal, crossing the 200-seat mark in the 294-member Assembly as counting trends solidify its dominance. According to official figures, the BJP has moved well beyond the majority mark, while the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) is trailing with under 100 seats, marking a sharp political shift in the state.
Smaller parties, including Congress and Left formations, have been reduced to marginal presence, underlining the emergence of a bipolar contest that has now tilted decisively in favour of the BJP.
Fadnavis Celebrates, Calls It a Turning Point
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis marked the moment in a symbolic way, celebrating the party’s performance by enjoying traditional jhalmuri in Mumbai. Reacting to the trends, he said, “The victory in West Bengal will save our country from infiltrators, terrorist activities, and attacks.”
He added that the results reflect strong public confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP’s governance model. According to Fadnavis, the electoral outcome is not just a state-level win but part of a broader national shift.
Sharp Criticism of Previous Regimes
Taking aim at the outgoing government led by Mamata Banerjee, Fadnavis described the past years as a period of decline. He alleged that governance failures had impacted investment, industry, and law and order in the state.
“West Bengal was once an industrial powerhouse, but thousands of industries have left,” he claimed, adding that the state’s share in foreign investment had sharply declined over the years.
BJP’s Rise and National Footprint
Highlighting the party’s growth, Fadnavis pointed out that the BJP has expanded significantly across regions including Assam and Puducherry. He claimed that nearly 78% of the country is now governed by the BJP-led alliance, reflecting a broader consolidation of political influence.
He also credited Union Home Minister Amit Shah for strategic planning and organisational strength that helped the party achieve this breakthrough in Bengal.
Looking Ahead: ‘Sonar Bangla’ Vision
Fadnavis expressed confidence that the BJP would now focus on development and infrastructure in West Bengal, aligning with the vision of “Sonar Bangla.” Drawing parallels with Assam’s growth after BJP governance, he said the state could emerge as a major contributor to India’s economy.
As counting continues, the scale of the BJP’s lead indicates a historic transformation in Bengal’s political landscape, potentially ending over a decade of TMC dominance and opening a new chapter in the state’s governance.
