LIVE Election Updates: BJP Strengthens Position Against Mamata Banerjee in Bengal; TVK Edges Ahead of DMK in Tamil Nadu

As counting trends begin to emerge across key states, early indications point to a high-stakes and closely watched electoral outcome in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry. In West Bengal, a fierce contest between the All India Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party is unfolding, with both sides claiming an edge as counting progresses under tight security. Tamil Nadu is witnessing strong competition as the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam seeks to retain power, while actor-politician Vijay’s party is attempting to make significant gains. In Assam, trends suggest a competitive fight with regional and national parties vying for dominance, while in Puducherry, early leads hint at a fragmented mandate that could make post-result alliances crucial.

9:18 AM — Adhikari Leads in Key Bengal Battlegrounds
Early counting trends show BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari ahead in both Nandigram and Bhabanipur. In Bhabanipur, he is contesting directly against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a closely watched high-profile fight. Nandigram, which gained national attention during the 2007 land movement protests, remains crucial as Adhikari aims to hold on to his previous victory.

At the same time, BJP+ has already moved past the majority mark in Assam, while in Kerala, the UDF has taken a clear lead, positioning itself strongly against the ruling LDF.

9:05 AM — BJP Pushes Ahead in Bengal; UDF Dominates Kerala
Latest trends indicate a dramatic shift in West Bengal’s political landscape. BJP has surged ahead with around 119 seats, significantly improving its position compared to the last election, while TMC+ trails at approximately 109 seats. Both sides, however, remain short of the 148-seat majority mark, keeping the contest wide open.

Kerala appears to be tilting towards the UDF, which has crossed the majority line with over 70 seats, putting the LDF on the back foot. Assam continues to remain firmly in BJP+ control, comfortably above the required majority.

Tamil Nadu is witnessing an unexpected disruption, with actor Vijay’s TVK making a strong debut performance and cutting into the vote share of both DMK+ and AIADMK+. No alliance has yet secured a majority in the state. In Puducherry, BJP+ is maintaining a decisive lead well above the halfway mark.

9:00 AM — Early Trends Show Political Realignment
Initial numbers suggest a significant reshaping of power equations across states. In West Bengal, BJP has crossed the 115-seat mark, while TMC+ is slightly behind but still in contention.

Assam trends confirm BJP+ dominance with numbers already beyond the majority threshold. Tamil Nadu continues to see a fragmented mandate with TVK emerging as a key player in its first electoral outing. Kerala remains competitive at this stage, with a narrow gap between UDF and LDF. Puducherry trends strongly favor BJP+.

8:52 AM — Neck-and-Neck Contest in Bengal, Clear Signals Elsewhere
Early postal ballot trends pointed to a tight race in West Bengal, with BJP+ and TMC nearly level. In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appears set for another term as BJP+ gains a comfortable lead.

In Tamil Nadu, initial leads suggested DMK ahead, though TVK’s entry has altered traditional dynamics. Kerala’s early numbers showed a competitive contest rather than the one-sided outcome predicted by several exit polls. Meanwhile, Puducherry trends indicated a strong advantage for BJP+ from the outset.
