A tragic accident in Maharashtra’s Nashik district has claimed nine lives after a car carrying students and family members plunged into a water-filled well late Friday night. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for the families of each victim and ordered a detailed probe into the incident.
The victims were returning to their village after attending a private coaching class function when the accident occurred in Dindori taluka. The incident has left the entire region in shock and mourning.
What Happened in Nashik?
Rescue teams, including local authorities and emergency services, worked through the night to pull the vehicle out using cranes. Due to darkness and water depth, the operation was extremely difficult. Sadly, all nine occupants died due to drowning and suffocation.
Among the deceased were six students and several members of the same family. Some victims have been identified as members of the Dargode family, while identification of others is still ongoing.
Government Announces Aid, Orders Probe
CM Fadnavis called the incident “extremely unfortunate and painful” and assured support to the affected families. He also confirmed that a detailed investigation has been ordered to find out the exact cause of the accident.
State minister Girish Mahajan visited the site and is overseeing relief efforts. Authorities are also examining whether negligence, including an unsecured well, played a role in the tragedy.

Officials are now investigating whether proper safety measures were in place around the well. Questions are being raised about road safety, visibility, and whether the well was adequately covered or secured.
