A fresh internal rift has emerged within the Indian National Congress, as several senior leaders publicly differed from Rahul Gandhi on the Modi government’s handling of the Iran conflict and the domestic LPG situation.
Senior Leaders Praise Govt, Differ from Rahul
While Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly criticised the Centre’s diplomatic approach to the ongoing West Asia crisis, leaders like Kamal Nath, Anand Sharma, Shashi Tharoor, and Manish Tewari have taken a noticeably different stand.
Manish Tewari, speaking on the Iran war, said the government was “likely doing the right thing,” while Anand Sharma described India’s diplomatic handling as “mature and skillful.”
Kamal Nath, on the other hand, dismissed claims of an LPG shortage, stating that “there is no such shortage” and accused some groups of creating unnecessary panic.
Rahul Gandhi Maintains Critical Stand
Rahul Gandhi has consistently targeted the Modi government over its foreign policy decisions and energy concerns. He also urged the Centre to take a stronger position on developments in Iran, including reactions following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader.
BJP Hits Back at Congress
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party quickly seized on the divisions within Congress. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that even Congress leaders have now admitted there is no fuel shortage, accusing the party of spreading fear for political gain.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also criticised Rahul Gandhi, calling the internal disagreements proof of weak leadership within the opposition party.
Old Pattern Repeats After Operation Sindoor
This is not the first time Congress leaders have publicly broken ranks. A similar situation unfolded after Operation Sindoor, when leaders like Shashi Tharoor supported the government’s actions, even as Rahul Gandhi criticised them.
At the time, Tharoor and Tewari were reportedly sidelined during parliamentary debates, highlighting internal tensions within the party.
Growing Divide on National Issues
The latest disagreement over the Iran conflict and LPG supply once again exposes fault lines within Congress, especially on issues related to foreign policy and economic concerns.
