In a shocking incident during election campaigning, the convoy of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was allegedly attacked in Kerala’s Malappuram district on Friday evening, triggering security concerns and a police investigation.
Attack During Campaign in Wandoor
The incident took place when Tharoor was visiting Wandoor to campaign for Congress candidate AP Anil Kumar. Around 7 pm, a group of individuals reportedly intercepted his convoy near Chellithode.
According to initial reports, the attackers arrived on bikes and in cars, stopped the convoy, and began verbally abusing the security personnel. The situation quickly escalated when they allegedly attempted to attack Tharoor.
Gunman Assaulted While Intervening
As tensions rose, Tharoor’s gunman stepped in to protect him but was reportedly assaulted by the group. The gunman later filed an official complaint with the Wandoor police, detailing the sequence of events.
Police Action: Arrests and Detentions
Kerala Police confirmed that one आरोपी, identified as Umar from Kalikavu, has been arrested in connection with the incident. Two other individuals have been detained for questioning.
Authorities have also seized two vehicles allegedly used by the attackers. A case has been registered against five individuals involved in the incident.
Probe Underway, Motive Unclear
Police officials stated that the exact motive behind the attack is still under investigation. While there is no confirmed evidence yet of political conspiracy, authorities suspect the attackers may have deliberately tried to create disturbance.
All suspects are currently being questioned, and officials said further clarity will emerge after detailed interrogation.
