A fresh political confrontation is brewing ahead of the special Parliament session as Jairam Ramesh revealed that the government plans to hold a three-day session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on April 16, 17, and 18 to discuss amendments to the Women’s Reservation Bill.
The Congress has now demanded a broader consultation, insisting that such a crucial issue should not be decided without involving all opposition parties.

According to Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had written to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on March 16, seeking discussions on proposed amendments to the Women’s Reservation Bill, 2023.
However, the Congress responded by asking the government to call an all-party meeting instead of holding selective discussions.

Mallikarjun Kharge replied the same day, stating that the matter requires wider political consensus.

On March 24, several opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, backed the demand for a joint meeting.
Almost all opposition parties supported the proposal, insisting that changes to a major law like the Women’s Reservation Bill should be discussed collectively.
Even parties not directly part of the communication reportedly agreed with the demand.
