BJP Targets Hemant Soren Govt Over ₹100 Crore CM Residence ‘Sheesh Mahal’ Row

A major political controversy has erupted in Jharkhand after the BJP accused the government led by Hemant Soren of planning a lavish Chief Minister’s residence allegedly worth over ₹100 crore. The opposition termed it a “Sheesh Mahal,” questioning the government’s priorities.

Luxury Features Spark Criticism

State BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Dev claimed the project includes a ₹2 crore fountain, ₹2.5 crore garden, swimming pool, jacuzzi, and premium interiors. He argued that such spending is unjustified when many citizens are struggling with basic needs.

Cost Escalation and Timing Questioned

The BJP alleged that while the main structure may cost around ₹47 crore, additional components and cost escalation could push the total beyond ₹100 crore. The party also questioned why such a project is being prioritised when future infrastructure plans are already in place.

JMM Defends Project, Calls It Necessary

The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha hit back, with spokesperson Manoj Pandey saying the residence is part of an approved government plan. He questioned whether a Chief Minister should function from inadequate facilities.

Political War Intensifies

Pandey also pointed to projects under Arvind Kejriwal and the Centre, accusing BJP of selective criticism. With both sides trading sharp attacks, the issue is set to become a major political flashpoint in Jharkhand.
