In a major development in the Goa nightclub fire tragedy, a court has granted conditional bail to Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra.
The Additional Sessions Court at Merces allowed their bail in connection with the December 2025 fire at the Birch by Romeo Lane, where 25 people lost their lives.
Why They Are Still in Jail
Despite getting bail in the fire case, the two brothers will not be released immediately. They remain in custody due to a separate forgery case being investigated by Mapusa police.
A police official confirmed, “We took custody of Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra as part of our probe,” indicating that the investigation is still active.
Forgery Case Complicates Matter
The forgery case involves allegations that a fake no-objection certificate was used to obtain an excise licence for the nightclub.
Their anticipatory bail plea in this case was earlier rejected on March 27, which is why they continue to remain in jail even after securing bail in the fire case.
The Deadly Fire Incident
The tragic fire broke out on December 6, 2025, at a nightclub in Arpora, Goa. The incident claimed 25 lives and left over 50 people injured, making it one of the deadliest nightclub disasters in the state.
Investigations are being carried out by different police units. While Anjuna police are probing the cause of the fire, Mapusa police are handling the forgery and licensing angle.
Arrest After Leaving India
After the incident, the Luthra brothers had travelled to Thailand. They were later deported back to India and arrested in connection with the case.
Their travel raised questions during the investigation, adding to the seriousness of the charges.
Investigation Still Ongoing
Authorities are continuing to examine both the fire incident and possible violations in obtaining licences for the nightclub.
With legal proceedings underway in multiple cases, the matter is far from closed.
