Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has announced the much-awaited list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections, confirming that the DMK will contest 164 seats out of the total 234 constituencies.
Top Leaders and Key Seats
Stalin will contest once again from Kolathur, while his son and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has been fielded from Chepauk-Triplicane.
Former minister Senthil Balaji will contest from Coimbatore South. Several other important candidates have also been announced across major constituencies like Kanyakumari, Thanjavur, Tiruvannamalai, and Saidapet.
Diverse Candidate List
The DMK highlighted that its list includes candidates from different professional backgrounds. According to Stalin, the list features:
- 18 women candidates
- 15 doctors
- 29 lawyers
He said this reflects the party’s effort to bring diverse representation into politics.
Alliance Seat Sharing Finalised
The DMK has also sealed its alliance strategy for the elections. While it will contest 164 seats, its key ally Congress will fight on 28 seats.
Campaign and Manifesto Plan
Responding to criticism over the delay, Stalin said the party may have released its list later than others but is fully prepared.
He announced that the DMK will release its election manifesto soon and begin active campaigning in the coming days.
Election Dates Confirmed
Tamil Nadu will vote in a single phase on April 23 for all 234 seats, and the results will be declared on May 4.
