The United States government has issued a dramatic and urgent advisory asking its citizens to immediately leave multiple Middle Eastern countries as military tensions in the region spiral sharply. The warning comes after coordinated American and Israeli air operations targeted Iran, followed by retaliatory strikes by Tehran against US-linked positions in the Gulf.
Marco Rubio’s Direct Appeal to Americans
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio released a video message urging Americans across the region to prioritize their safety. He stressed that the security of US citizens remains the top priority and advised them to depart using available commercial flights without delay.
Rubio also asked citizens to register under the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive real-time alerts from nearby US embassies and consulates. He shared emergency contact numbers for round-the-clock assistance.
Separately, Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs Mora Namdar reinforced the message, repeating the call for Americans to exit immediately due to what officials described as “serious safety risks.”
Countries Covered Under the Advisory
The advisory applies to 15 countries across the Middle East. These include Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, Oman, Iraq, Qatar, Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
Officials stated that the advisory was updated late on March 2 (Eastern Time), reflecting rapidly evolving security developments.
Six US Service Members Killed
In a significant development, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that six American service members have been killed amid ongoing combat operations.
According to CENTCOM, two previously missing personnel were recovered from a military facility that had been struck during Iran’s initial wave of attacks. The names of the fallen troops are being withheld pending notification of their families.
Major combat operations are reportedly continuing in several areas.
Airstrikes That Changed the Region
The latest crisis escalated after joint US and Israeli airstrikes on February 28 targeted key Iranian military installations, missile systems, and strategic infrastructure across multiple cities. Large explosions were reported in Tehran and other major locations.
Iran confirmed that the strikes resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with four senior security and military officials. The attack marked a historic turning point in the region’s power balance.
Following these strikes, Iran launched retaliatory operations targeting US-linked assets and allied positions in the Gulf, raising fears of a wider regional war.
Region on Edge
With military exchanges continuing and diplomatic channels strained, analysts warn that the Middle East stands at one of its most dangerous crossroads in recent history. Governments across the world are closely monitoring developments, while embassies are updating emergency protocols.
