Delhi: The Delhi Police Special Cell has dismantled a suspected terror module operating out of Tamil Nadu, arresting eight individuals allegedly involved in planning a large-scale attack in India. Officials confirmed that one of the arrested suspects is a Bangladeshi national, while others are Indian citizens.
The arrests followed months of intelligence-led surveillance, officials said.
Arrests Made From Garment Hubs in Tiruppur
According to investigators, the suspects were picked up from multiple locations in Tiruppur district, a major textile and garment manufacturing hub. They were working in garment units while allegedly using their employment as a cover to build and expand a covert terror network.
The arrests were carried out across:
- Uthukuli: 2 suspects
- Palladam: 3 suspects
- Thirumuruganpoondi: 1 suspect
Two additional suspects were detained from West Bengal, officials added.
After their detention, all suspects were brought to Delhi by train under tight security for further interrogation.
Identities Concealed Using Forged Documents
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were operating under false identities. Police said the suspects had procured fake Aadhaar cards and other forged documents to avoid detection while moving across states.
Officials believe the use of fabricated identities allowed them to remain under the radar while establishing logistical and communication links.
Online Radicalisation and Propaganda Activities
The Special Cell stated that several of the accused were actively using social media platforms to circulate propaganda material linked to Pakistan-based terror outfits. Investigators said the content was aimed at radicalising local youth and spreading anti-India narratives.
Authorities are now examining the digital footprint of the suspects to identify additional recruits and sympathisers.
Seizures Reveal Cross-Border Coordination
During searches, police recovered eight mobile phones and sixteen SIM cards. Forensic analysis of the devices has reportedly revealed communication with foreign handlers and financial trails pointing to overseas funding sources.
Officials said the suspects were allegedly acting under the direction of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence and Bangladeshi extremist groups.
Links to Suspicious Activities in Delhi
Investigators also found evidence suggesting the suspects’ involvement in activities in Delhi, including the appearance of “Free Kashmir” posters and other acts viewed as part of a broader destabilisation strategy.
Police are now probing whether the group had advanced-stage plans or identified specific targets.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities said further arrests are possible as the probe continues. Central and state agencies are coordinating to track financial channels, communication networks, and potential sleeper cells linked to the module.
