Mumbai: In the wake of the fatal Metro Line 4 accident in Mulund, National Spokesperson of the NCP-SP, Clyde Crasto, launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Maharashtra government, alleging negligence and lack of accountability in public infrastructure projects.

Reacting to the collapse of a concrete slab from the under-construction Metro 4 corridor that claimed the life of a local resident and injured others, Crasto said the incident proves that “life of a Mumbikar holds no value for this BJP-led Maharashtra Government.” He described the victim as an “innocent Mumbikar” who lost his life due to what he termed systemic failure.

Crasto also targeted senior BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, stating that despite being from Mulund, “he has his eyes everywhere except his own backyard.” The remark was aimed at questioning the silence of local BJP leadership over safety concerns in the constituency.

He further urged Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde to raise the issue strongly with the state administration, saying that commuter safety must take priority over political considerations. According to Crasto, civic representatives have a responsibility to speak up when infrastructure lapses lead to loss of life.

Raising direct questions to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Crasto asked whether strict action would be taken against officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the contractor responsible for executing the project. “Will they be held accountable or given a clean chit?” he questioned, demanding transparency in the inquiry process.

The Mulund incident occurred when a structural portion of the Metro Line 4 project fell onto vehicles moving along LBS Marg, triggering outrage and renewed scrutiny over construction safety in Mumbai. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the collapse.
