Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday hailed the newly announced India–United States trade agreement, saying it marks a turning point for India’s global trade position and opens fresh growth avenues for states like Maharashtra.

Welcoming the deal, Fadnavis said the understanding between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump comes at a time when global trade equations are rapidly changing. He described the agreement as a positive step that strengthens economic ties between the world’s two largest democracies.

In a message shared on social media, the Chief Minister said the agreement reflects a new phase of trust and cooperation between India and the US. He noted that the reduction in tariffs on Indian exports will make Indian products more competitive in the American market, giving a major boost to exporters.

Fadnavis highlighted that Maharashtra, being one of India’s leading industrial and export-driven states, is well placed to gain from the agreement. He said sectors such as manufacturing, technology, and services are expected to see increased demand and investment as trade barriers come down.

According to him, the state could also emerge as a preferred destination for investments in future-focused areas like artificial intelligence, data centres, and advanced digital infrastructure. These sectors, he added, have the potential to generate employment and accelerate long-term economic growth.

The India–US trade agreement includes a commitment by Washington to reduce reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods from 25 per cent to 18 per cent under a proposed trade framework valued at around $500 billion. The announcement was made by President Trump following a phone conversation with Prime Minister Modi.
