Mumbai: Political tensions in Maharashtra flared up after a sharp war of words between the Shiv Sena and AIMIM over remarks related to Mumbra, a locality in Thane district. “Thane is Maharashtra’s largest district and its identity has always been saffron. Mumbra is just one part of it and follows the same ideology,” Shinde said. As criticism mounted, AIMIM leader Sahar Sheikh issued a clarification. He said his use of the word “green” was only meant to represent his party’s flag and not any religious meaning. He accused the ruling alliance of twisting his words to create unnecessary controversy.
AIMIM leaders maintained that their politics is focused on civic problems, minority welfare, and local governance, especially in areas like Mumbra where the party claims strong public support. They argued that real issues such as infrastructure, housing, and basic services are being sidelined by political mudslinging.
Despite the clarification, the episode has once again highlighted how identity, symbolism, and legacy dominate political debates in Maharashtra. Thane, due to its proximity to Mumbai and its electoral importance, remains a key battleground for competing ideologies.
