Mumbai: As early trends from the Maharashtra municipal corporation elections point to a decisive edge for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, senior leaders of the party have begun exchanging congratulations, reflecting growing confidence within the ruling camp. The Mahayuti has taken the lead in most of the 29 municipal corporations, while in Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance has already crossed the majority threshold in initial counts.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis personally reached out to Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan and Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam over the phone, applauding their leadership and organisational efforts. Speaking to Chavan, the Chief Minister said, “Honourable Ravindra Chavan, many congratulations to you. Under your leadership, the party has achieved a remarkable victory across Maharashtra. It’s truly a spectacular win, and I want to congratulate you from the bottom of my heart.”
In a separate call to Ameet Satam, Fadnavis expressed satisfaction with the party’s Mumbai performance, telling him, “Ameet, many congratulations! You’ve done a great job, and there’s no need to worry now. You’ve performed exceptionally well, and I’m very happy for you. Let’s hope for the best as we move forward.”
Revenue Minister and BJP’s election in-charge for the civic polls, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, credited the outcome to public trust in the Chief Minister’s leadership. In a detailed post on X, he described the results as a sweeping mandate for development, writing, “Storm of development.. An invincible wave of trust.. And the unbreakable devotion of the people! From every corner of Maharashtra, the roar echoes loud and clear – Devabhau’s leadership is Maharashtra’s destiny!”
Bawankule further added that these were not just electoral leads but a clear endorsement of governance, stating that voters had said a resounding yes to progress, infrastructure growth, investment, and employment generation. He praised Fadnavis’ calm decision-making and tireless work, calling it the backbone of Maharashtra’s growth story. Thanking voters, he said that those who stood in queues to vote were the true architects of the state’s future and promised to honour their trust with greater dedication.
Reacting sharply to the BMC trends, Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora took a swipe at the Thackeray cousins’ alliance. In a cryptic post, he remarked, “In Mumbai, only two brothers… The darling brother and the god-brother!”, mocking the political reunion of Uddhav and Raj Thackeray.
In another post, Deora said the BMC results had brought an end to what he termed political theatrics, asserting that Mumbai had chosen accountability and development over family-driven politics. He claimed that Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena had emerged as the real inheritor of the Sena legacy, while alliance politics failed to impress voters.
Outside Mumbai, the BJP continued its strong performance in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, where both factions of the Nationalist Congress Party—led by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar—are reportedly trailing despite local-level coordination. In Thane, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s stronghold, his Shiv Sena faction is maintaining a comfortable lead.
The civic polls were also seen as a major test for the reunited Thackeray cousins, who attempted to mobilise votes on the plank of Marathi identity and legacy politics. However, early trends suggest that the strategy failed to counter the Mahayuti’s organisational strength and governance narrative.
