Mumbai: As political circles await the formal announcement of an alliance between Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, former Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar has shed light on the thinking within the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) camp, indicating that the move reflects long-standing sentiment rather than sudden compulsion.

Speaking on the evolving political scenario, Pednekar said the idea of the Thackeray cousins joining hands has consistently found support among grassroots workers and loyalists who associate the party’s identity with Balasaheb Thackeray’s legacy. According to her, many within the organisation believed that internal divisions diluted the core strength of Marathi politics and weakened the original Shiv Sena’s ideological foundation.

Pednekar underlined that political life is marked by changing fortunes and that no leader remains permanently at the centre of power. She suggested that maturity in politics lies in recognising when unity serves a larger purpose, especially when personal differences risk overshadowing collective goals.

Referring to the long rift between the two Thackeray leaders, she remarked that personal disagreements should not take precedence over safeguarding the party’s identity. She added that the threat to the Thackeray brand and its political relevance had prompted a deeper introspection within the ranks.

The former mayor also alleged that the fragmentation of the Shiv Sena was a calculated political move by rivals to weaken a strong regional force in Maharashtra. According to her, the undivided Sena’s influence made it difficult for opponents to dominate the state, making division a strategic necessity for them.
