Mumbai: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has stepped up its preparations for the high-stakes Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections by announcing a strong lineup of star campaigners, indicating its intent to play a bigger role in Mumbai’s civic politics.
Through an official announcement on social media platform X, AAP released a list of 40 senior leaders who will spearhead the party’s campaign across the city. The list reflects a mix of national leadership, experienced administrators and prominent Mumbai-based faces, underlining the party’s strategy to blend central leadership with local outreach.
AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal will lead the campaign, supported by senior leaders such as Manish Sisodia, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, former Delhi minister Satyendra Jain and Atishi. The party has also roped in key organisational strategists and spokespersons including Durgesh Pathak, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Dilip Pandey, Harpal Singh Cheema and Imran Hussain.
Notably, several leaders with strong roots in Mumbai’s civic and activist space have been included in the list. Names like Ruben Mascarenhas, Preeti Sharma Menon, Vijay Kumbhar and Sandeep Desai are expected to focus on local issues such as governance, corruption, infrastructure and public services.
The announcement comes amid heightened political activity in Maharashtra following the ruling Mahayuti alliance’s dominant performance in recent local body elections. Senior BJP leaders have already projected confidence ahead of the BMC polls, calling recent results an indicator of public trust in Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ leadership.
Against this backdrop, AAP’s decision to deploy its top leadership early is being seen as an attempt to expand its footprint in Mumbai and position itself as an alternative voice in civic governance.
