Delhi: A special court in Bathinda has issued a fresh directive to Bollywood actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, asking her to appear in person on December 15, 2025, in connection with a high-profile defamation case filed by an elderly woman farmer. The order came after Kangana failed to attend Thursday’s scheduled hearing, citing her ongoing commitments in the Lok Sabha session.
The case, being heard in the special court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Inderjeet Singh, falls under the category of matters involving sitting MPs and MLAs. The court observed Kangana’s absence and noted her explanation but insisted that she must remain present during the next hearing. The judge made it clear that her personal appearance is necessary for the proceedings to move forward.
During Thursday’s session, the court recorded the testimony of the complainant, Mahinder Kaur, who arrived in a wheelchair to present her statement. Kaur, a resident of Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda district, had filed the complaint in 2021, alleging that the actor had publicly defamed her in a widely circulated social media post made in 2020.
According to Kaur’s complaint, Kangana had mistakenly identified her as Shaheen Bagh protester Bilkis Bano, writing that such women could be “available for Rs 100” to appear at protests — a remark that sparked outrage across the farming community during the peak of the farmers’ agitation. Kaur insisted that the actor’s post not only misidentified her but also insulted her dignity and questioned her integrity as a protester during the farmers’ movement.
