Delhi: A sharp political flashpoint emerged after Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote to the Rajya Sabha Chairman seeking the immediate withdrawal of a controversial notification that allegedly restricts the use of “Jai Hind” and “Vande Mataram” inside the Upper House.

In a formal letter routed through the Secretary-General, Chaturvedi said the notice had triggered “significant concern” among lawmakers.

“It has come to our attention that the ban on slogans ‘Jai Hind’ and ‘Vande Mataram,’ through a notification by the Rajya Sabha, has caused significant concern among Members,” she wrote.

Calling the move unacceptable, the MP stressed that these expressions are inseparable from India’s identity.

“Since such expressions are fundamental to the spirit and soul of our country, I urge that the circular related to this ban be withdrawn and an appropriate apology issued,” Chaturvedi added.
