Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, but the trip has already ignited a major political storm after a DMK functionary allegedly issued a death threat against him during a public protest in Tenkasi. A video of the remarks has gone viral on social media, drawing strong condemnation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagendran circulated the video online, urging the state government to take swift action and arrest the DMK leader involved. The controversy stems from comments reportedly made by DMK South District Secretary Jaypalan during a demonstration against the SIR project.
In the widely shared clip, Jaypalan is heard comparing Prime Minister Modi to “Narakasura,” a demon from Hindu mythology. He allegedly told the crowd, “Modi is desperate to snatch your votes, he is another demon… Tamil Nadu can be benefited only by eliminating him… We have to fight this battle unitedly and show victory.”
The remarks have triggered outrage, with many describing them as a direct threat to the Prime Minister’s safety.
Reacting sharply, BJP state president Nainar Nagendran said that issuing threats against the country’s elected leader—someone who holds a globally respected position—raises grave concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in Tamil Nadu. He questioned how such statements could be made openly without immediate police intervention.
