Delhi: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has sharply condemned a viral undated video showing Delhi blast accused Dr Umar Nabi defending suicide bombings and describing them as “martyrdom”. In the clip, Umar argues that the idea of suicide attacks is “misunderstood”, a claim Owaisi rejected outright while calling such acts un-Islamic and deeply criminal.
Speaking to the media, Owaisi said Umar’s statements had no religious legitimacy whatsoever. He emphasised that Islam strictly prohibits suicide and the killing of innocents, adding that acts of violence in the name of faith “leave no room for reinterpretation”.
Calling the incident a serious national security failure, Owaisi raised pointed questions about how the module managed to operate undetected. Referring to Operation Sindoor and the Mahadev crackdown, he recalled Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement in Parliament claiming no Kashmiri youth had joined terror outfits in the past six months.
“Where did this group come from then? Who is accountable for the failure to detect this group?” Owaisi asked.
The video features Umar calmly explaining his views in fluent English. At one point, he says: “One of the very misunderstood concepts is the concept of what has been labelled as suicide bombing. It is a martyrdom operation… known in Islam. Now, there are multiple contradictions; there are multiple arguments that have been brought against it.”
Security agencies describe Umar as part of a newly emerged, highly educated terror module, involving professionals including doctors. Investigators say the group’s sophistication represents a troubling evolution in extremist recruitment.
Umar’s arrest followed a horrific explosion on November 10, when the Hyundai i20 he was driving blew up near the Red Fort Metro Station, killing 13 people and injuring 20. The probe later linked him to a major explosive recovery in Faridabad.
