New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has intensified his attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging a massive voter fraud in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections. Gandhi claimed that “25 lakh fake votes” were cast in the state, turning a potential Congress victory into defeat.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, November 5, Gandhi accused the ECI of “complicity” and questioned its silence despite what he called “100% proof” of large-scale irregularities. “We have found undeniable evidence that one in every eight voters in Haryana is fake. The Election Commission is refusing to act,” he said.
According to Gandhi, his team’s data analysis revealed more than 5.21 lakh duplicate voter entries, including instances where the same photograph was allegedly used under multiple names. Displaying one such example, he said that a woman’s picture had been used repeatedly under names like Seema, Sweety, and Saraswati — claiming she had “voted 22 times” across polling booths.
Gandhi also accused the BJP of using digital manipulation to “steal democracy.” “This isn’t just vote chori, it’s democracy chori. The BJP, with the Election Commission’s silence, has undermined the people’s mandate,” he alleged.
He further claimed that the Election Commission’s failure to investigate these discrepancies points to a larger conspiracy to weaken the democratic process. Gandhi demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe into what he described as “systemic electoral fraud.”
The image shown during Gandhi’s presentation later drew attention online after it was discovered to be of a Brazilian model from the free image platform Unsplash. However, Gandhi maintained that the example was meant to highlight how fake identities could be created digitally and used to inflate voter lists.
As of now, the ECI has denied the allegations, questioning why Congress agents did not raise objections during voting. However, Gandhi has stood by his claims, saying, “We will not stay silent while democracy is being hijacked. The truth will come out.”
