Patna: The Bihar unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday lodged a formal complaint with the State Chief Election Officer against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of making derogatory, personal, and insulting remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public election rally — a violation, they said, of the Model Code of Conduct and provisions under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

In its written complaint, the BJP alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s comments amounted to “personal vilification” of the Prime Minister and were unbecoming of a national political leader. “During his public address, Shri Rahul Gandhi stated, ‘Before elections, if you ask Modi, he will dance to win votes,’” the complaint read, terming the statement “an insult to the office of the Prime Minister and a blatant attempt to lower the dignity of the nation’s highest elected position.”

The BJP has urged the Election Commission to take immediate action by issuing a show-cause notice to Rahul Gandhi, directing him to tender an unconditional public apology, and barring him from campaigning for a specified period. The party said such measures were necessary “to preserve the sanctity of democratic and electoral decorum.”
