New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal concluded a three-day visit to Brussels from October 26 to 28, 2025, where he held a series of constructive discussions with Maroš Šefčovič, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, and his team on the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the meetings were “productive and meaningful,” focusing on resolving key outstanding issues that have delayed the conclusion of the much-anticipated trade deal.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to finalize the FTA by the end of 2025, in line with the clear guidance provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during the College of Commissioners’ visit to New Delhi in February 2025.

Officials said the discussions covered sensitive areas such as market access, investment protection, and sustainable development, which remain crucial to shaping a balanced and forward-looking agreement that benefits both economies.

The India-EU FTA, once concluded, is expected to become one of India’s most significant trade pacts, potentially enhancing bilateral trade, boosting investment flows, and creating new opportunities in sectors like technology, pharmaceuticals, green energy, and manufacturing.

Minister Goyal also met representatives from European industry and business associations to discuss ways to deepen trade and innovation partnerships between India and the European Union.
