Navi Mumbai: The Women’s World Cup campaign for Team India has hit an unexpected snag. Star opener Pratika Rawal hurt her ankle during the group stage match against Bangladesh. She got hurt while fielding near the boundary on a wet outfield, which made her leave the game in the middle of the inning.

A doctor is checking out Pratika, one of India’s best players in this World Cup. The Indian camp is worried because they don’t know if she will be able to play in the important semifinal against Australia. BCCI issued an update on Pratika’s injury, “Team India all ounder Pratika Rawal sustained an injury to her knee and ankle while fielding in the first innings against Bangladesh. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring her progress.”

After being seen in discomfort as she lay holding her ankle, the India opener was immediately tended to by the team physio. Pratika was eventually helped off the field. As India came in to bat in the second innings, Amanjot Kaur would step in to open alongside Smriti Mandhana in Pratika’s stead.

A Key Player at a Key Time

The timing of Pratika’s injury couldn’t be worse. The young opener has been a key part of India’s strong run through the tournament, teaming up with Smriti Mandhana at the top to make a strong partnership. They’ve set the tone for India’s innings and often stopped the other team’s attacks during the powerplay.

Earlier in the tournament, Pratika made headlines when she scored her first World Cup century. She showed grace, calmness, and the ability to pace her innings like an adult. In addition to her batting, she has also helped with the ball, giving India a useful medium pace option that has come in handy in close games.

India has balance and flexibility with her as both an opener and a part time bowler. If she is ruled out of the semifinal, both of these things could be lost.

How it affects India’s team mix

If Pratika doesn’t show up, India’s management will have to rethink their lineup for the semifinal against Australia, the defending champions. If she isn’t there, the batting order might need to be changed, and players like Aman Jyot or Jemimah Rodrigues might have to move up to open with Mandhana.

Losing Pratika’s all around skills could also affect the depth of the bowling. India might need to bring in another bowler or use their spinners more, which is already a strong area for them. Her absence could also hurt the team’s morale in addition to their tactics. Pratika has been one of the most consistent and calm players on the team, and everyone, from players to staff, has liked how positive she is in the locker room.

Regarding her injury, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur stated after the game, “The medical team is monitoring Pratika. Hopefully she will also be fine for the next game (semi-final against Australia).”

Plans for the coach’s confidence and backup

The team’s medical and coaching staff are still hopeful, even though they are still waiting for an official update on Pratika’s condition. People in the camp say that she is responding well to treatment and that a final fitness test will be given before the semifinals.

India’s coaching staff, who are known for their careful planning, have backup plans in place. Because the team has been focusing on rotating players and managing their workloads, every player has had a chance to play in the tournament. A factor that could make the switch easier if a replacement is needed.

Australia Waits for the High Stakes Clash

Australia, whom India will face in the semifinals, is still the best team in women’s cricket. A team that is known for being steady, calm, and deep. For India to have a good chance against them, the top order needs to get off to a strong start. That challenge gets harder without Pratika.

But India has been strong throughout the tournament. Getting back on track after early problems and finding strength in working together. The team is still a strong contender because they have a lot of good batters and a strong bowling attack led by Renuka Singh Thakur and Deepti Sharma.

A Test of Strength and Depth

If Pratika gets better in time, her return could give India the mental boost they need going into the knockout stage. But even if she doesn’t, this moment could show how deep, flexible, and confident India is.

The semifinal against Australia will now also test India’s ability to deal with problems, after their campaign has already shown off their style, bravery, and tactical maturity.

No matter if Pratika Rawal walks out to open in that important match, her performances have already left a lasting impression on India’s World Cup journey. They are based on talent, calmness, and a fighting spirit that is the heart and soul of this team.
