New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed the release of all 20 Israeli hostages from Gaza, calling it a moment of hope and relief for families and the region. Highlighting India’s support for peace initiatives, PM Modi also praised US President Donald Trump’s “unwavering” efforts and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “strong resolve” in bringing about this breakthrough.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “We welcome the release of all hostages after over two years of captivity. Their freedom stands as a tribute to the courage of their families, the unwavering peace efforts of President Trump, and the strong resolve of Prime Minister Netanyahu. We support President Trump’s sincere efforts to bring peace to the region.”

The Prime Minister’s statement reflects India’s continued emphasis on dialogue and peace in conflict zones. By acknowledging the role of international cooperation, PM Modi reinforced India’s image as a responsible global actor advocating stability in volatile regions.

The release of hostages coincides with a broader ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which also saw the liberation of more than 1,900 Palestinian prisoners. Families of the freed Israeli hostages in Tel Aviv were seen celebrating tearful reunions, while Palestinians in the West Bank welcomed buses carrying prisoners released from Ofer Prison.

Hamas announced it would release the bodies of four of the 28 deceased Israeli captives, though the timing for the remaining bodies remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Israel has released 1,900 Palestinian detainees, including 250 serving life sentences for attacks on Israelis and over 1,700 others captured during the Gaza conflict.
