New York: India delivered a sharp and uncompromising rebuttal to Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday, slamming Islamabad’s repeated attempts to rake up the Kashmir issue. Speaking during the open debate on Women, Peace and Security, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, described Pakistan’s statements as a “delusional tirade” by a nation “that bombs its own people and carries out systematic genocide.”

“Every year, we are unfortunately fated to listen to the delusional tirade of Pakistan against my country, especially on Jammu and Kashmir — the Indian territory they covet,” Harish said, adding that Pakistan’s propaganda no longer deceives the global community.

Referring to Pakistan’s historical atrocities, Harish recalled, “This is a country that conducted Operation Searchlight in 1971 and sanctioned a systematic campaign of genocidal mass rape of 400,000 women citizens by its own army. The world sees through Pakistan’s propaganda.”

The ambassador also tore into Islamabad’s hypocrisy on women’s rights. “A country that bombs its own people, conducts systematic genocide, can only attempt to distract the world with misdirection and hyperbole,” he stated.

India’s response came after Pakistan’s Counsellor Saima Saleem, representing its Permanent Mission to the UN, alleged that Kashmiri women have faced “decades of sexual violence” under “occupation.”

Rejecting these claims, Harish reiterated India’s long-standing position that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is, and shall forever remain an integral part of India.”

Last week too, New Delhi had slammed Islamabad for “rampant state-sponsored persecution” of minorities and one of the “world’s worst human rights records,” urging Pakistan to introspect before levelling baseless allegations.
