Lucknow: Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh: The Uttar Pradesh Police have registered a case against former Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni, his son Ashish Mishra, and Amandeep Singh, husband of Nighaasan Block Pramukh, in connection with a two-year-old Tikunia incident, following directions from the Supreme Court of India.
The case pertains to allegations of threatening a key witness to prevent him from testifying. The witness, Baljinder Singh of Bhairampur village, Padhua police station, had repeatedly approached local police to file a case against Teni, his son, and Amandeep Singh, but no action was taken. The witness then appealed to the Supreme Court, which ordered the registration of the case.
According to Baljinder Singh’s petition, he was scheduled to testify in the Lakhimpur Court on 16 October 2023 regarding the 2021 Tikunia incident. He alleged that on 15 August 2023, Amandeep Singh visited his home, attempting to coerce him into changing his testimony. The witness claims he was offered money and threatened, prompting him to leave for his in-laws’ home in Patrasi, Shardanagar.
The following day, as he prepared to testify, Baljinder Singh says Amandeep Singh, acting on instructions from Ajay Mishra Teni, threatened him again and offered a bribe of one lakh rupees. Fearing further harassment from the former minister and his son, Baljinder Singh reportedly leased out all his land and relocated to Punjab.
