Akhilesh Yadav reviewing preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections
The Samajwadi Party has begun a statewide exercise to identify strong candidates for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday took a sharp dig at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over his biographical film “Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi”, claiming that even BJP legislators gave it a miss.

“The film has already flopped on the big screen, but the debate around it continues. I’ve heard that even four BJP MLAs did not go to watch it, and none posted a single picture from the theatres. It looks like the producers forgot to issue a whip to make them watch it. By this logic, the government should be considered fallen—this would be the first government to collapse not in the Assembly but in the cinema hall,” Yadav posted on X.

The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also predicted that voters would oust the Yogi government in the 2027 assembly polls. “Critics are saying an SIT should be formed to investigate why the film failed. One reason is clear: the audience prefers genuine emotional stories, while this film is far removed from truth and human sensitivities. Today, the audience has rejected them; in 2024 and again in 2027, voters will do the same, putting an end to their arrogance,” he remarked.

Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi, inspired by Shantanu Gupta’s book The Monk Who Became Chief Minister, narrates the life of Yogi Adityanath. The film, directed by Ravindra Gautam and produced by Ritu Mengi, features Anant Joshi in the lead role along with Dinesh Lal Yadav, Pawan Malhotra, Rajesh Khattar, Garima Vikrant Singh, and Sarwar Ahuja.

Released on September 19 after a special screening in Delhi, the film has struggled to find an audience despite its political buzz.
