Sanjay Raut, Aaditya Thackeray Slam PVR for Screening India–Pakistan Asia Cup Final

Mumbai: PVR Cinemas has found itself at the centre of a political storm after announcing that it would screen the Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan live across its theatres on September 28 at 8 PM. The multiplex chain, in its social media post, promoted the event as “cricket’s fiercest rivalry” and invited fans to enjoy the match on the big screen.

The move, however, has triggered a fierce backlash from political leaders, who called the decision insensitive given India’s security concerns and recent attacks.

Sanjay Raut Questions PVR’s Motives
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut sharply criticised the cinema giant, asking, “Is the ‘P’ in PVR for Pakistan?” He termed the decision a “direct insult to the families of our martyrs.” Referring to activist Sonam Wangchuk’s arrest for allegedly showing sympathy towards Pakistan, Raut warned PVR not to “test our patience.”

Aaditya Thackeray Calls Screening ‘Disgusting’
Adding to the criticism, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray said, “This screening is disgusting. It disrespects the wounds of the Pahalgam attack victims and the armed forces who sacrificed their lives in Operation Sindoor.”

Mixed Reactions on Social Media
The controversy has sparked wide debate online. While many cricket fans welcomed the chance to experience the high-voltage India–Pakistan clash in theatres, others supported the leaders’ view that such screenings were inappropriate given recent national security issues.
