Handwara: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse (IAS), and under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner Handwara, Javeed Naseem Masoodi (JKAS), a comprehensive market inspection was conducted in Handwara town on Wednesday.
The inspection team comprised Revenue officials led by Naib Tehsildar A. Manzoor Ahmad, and Naib Tehsildar Magam, Ghulam Mohammad, along with officers from the Police Department, Food Safety, and the Municipal Committee Handwara.
During the drive, fines amounting to ₹6,500 were imposed on erring traders for various violations. Expired and soiled food items were destroyed on the spot, while shopkeepers were strictly warned against overpricing, selling substandard goods, and ignoring hygiene standards.
In addition, encroachments from footpaths were cleared to ensure smooth pedestrian movement.
Officials reaffirmed that such inspections will be carried out regularly to safeguard public health, ensure the availability of quality food items at fair prices, and maintain overall market discipline in Handwara.
