New Delhi: The Vice Presidential race in India has intensified as BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad raised pointed questions about INDIA alliance’s candidate, former Supreme Court judge Sudershan Reddy. Speaking to the media, Prasad cited Reddy’s 2011 judgment on the controversial Salwa Judum, stating, “Justice Sudershan Reddy is the former judge of the Supreme Court. In the judgment passed by him in 2011 on the Salwa Judum matter, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that due to his judgment, there will be difficulties in controlling the outbreak of Maoist activities… I wish to raise some fundamental issues about Sudershan Reddy, who is the INDIA alliance candidate for the post of VP. If the HM Amit Shah commented on his judgment, then what is wrong with this?”

The BJP leader’s comments triggered a sharp response from Congress. Senior party leader Pawan Khera defended Reddy, saying, “We expect Ravi Shankar Prasad, who is a lawyer, to read the judgment. He has clearly come out against Maoism and Naxalism. He only suggested that it should be through the security forces and not through Salwa Judum.”
