The Samajwadi Party has begun a statewide exercise to identify strong candidates for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

Kanpur: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the Uttar Pradesh government over the arrest of Kanpur lawyer Akhilesh Dubey, a close associate of the BJP. Yadav described the situation as “highly unusual,” questioning why Dubey, despite serious allegations, was not immediately targeted by bulldozer action, unlike opponents of the ruling party.

Investigations have revealed shocking irregularities. Dubey is accused of encroaching on government properties worth nearly ₹2,500 crore to run schools and guest houses. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe exposed an organized extortion network, allegedly using over 54 fabricated rape and POCSO cases to blackmail individuals and extract money or land settlements. Reports indicate that innocent people were jailed on false charges while Dubey’s network allegedly collected crores through intimidation.

One case highlighted by the SIT involved BJP leader Ravi Satyija, who reportedly faced a fabricated rape complaint over a property dispute. Satyija later admitted paying money under pressure to resolve the matter.

Despite five FIRs already registered against Dubey, police action has stalled over the past five days. Locals allege that Dubey’s close ties with senior police officials are protecting him from further legal consequences. Yadav slammed the government for double standards, asserting, “Bulldozers are used freely against opponents, but never touch BJP associates.”
