Satish Golcha Appointed As Delhi Police Commissioner Amid Security Concerns After CM Attack

New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry on Thursday named senior IPS officer Satish Golcha as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police, marking a swift change in the capital’s top law enforcement leadership just a day after the alleged attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a Jan Sunvai at her official residence.

Golcha, a 1992-batch officer of the AGMUT cadre, was serving as Director General (Prisons), Delhi, where he introduced reforms at Tihar, Mandoli, and Rohini jails while tightening security mechanisms. A Home Ministry notification stated that his appointment takes effect immediately and will continue until further orders.

He replaces SBK Singh, who had held the additional charge of Delhi Police Commissioner for only 21 days. Officials familiar with the developments say the leadership change comes at a “critical time,” as the capital’s police force faces tough questions over lapses in security following Wednesday’s shocking incident.

Golcha has held several key posts in Delhi Police, including Special CP (Intelligence), Special CP (Law and Order, Zone II), and head of the Crime Branch. He has also served as Director General of Police in Arunachal Pradesh.

The appointment is being widely seen as part of the Centre’s effort to restore public confidence in Delhi Police after a man from Gujarat managed to enter the CM’s residence and allegedly attack her during the public interaction.
