Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has extended the deadline for installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) on vehicles to November 30, 2025, giving owners more time to comply. The earlier deadline was August 15.
Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar said vehicles without HSRPs or a valid appointment receipt after December 1 will face strict action. Penalties could include denial of RTO services such as ownership transfers, fitness certificates, and vehicle modifications.
HSRPs, which are tamper-proof and help in tracking stolen vehicles, are mandatory for all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. However, only 18–19% of the 2.10 crore eligible vehicles in the state have been fitted with them so far.
Authorities have urged owners to book appointments early to avoid last-minute rush and overcrowding at fitment centres.
