ED Arrests Former VVMC Municipal Commissioner Anil Pawar and Builders in Vasai-Virar Illegal Construction Scam

Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Anil Pawar, IAS, former Municipal Commissioner of Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC), along with Sitaram Gupta (builder and corporator from Bahujan Vikas Aghadi), Arun Gupta (builder), and Y S Reddy, Deputy Town Planner (now suspended), in connection with a case involving illegal constructions in the Vasai-Virar region.

Investigation revealed that certain builders carried out unauthorized constructions and sold properties to unsuspecting investors. Following a Supreme Court order, these illegal buildings were demolished, leaving many homebuyers homeless.

All four accused were arrested on August 13 and are scheduled to be produced before a special PMLA court in Mumbai for ED custody, officials said. The case highlights the ongoing crackdown on municipal corruption and irregularities in real estate projects in Mumbai suburbs.
