New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has officially released the schedule for the election to choose a new Vice President, following the sudden resignation of incumbent VP Jagdeep Dhankhar. Voting is scheduled for September 9, and the results will be declared the same day.

This development comes after Dhankhar submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, citing deteriorating health conditions as the reason for stepping down from the constitutional post.

The Election Commission’s notification outlines the following timeline for the Vice Presidential election process:

  • Notification issue date: August 7, 2025 (Thursday)
  • Last date for filing nominations: August 21, 2025 (Thursday)
  • Scrutiny of nominations: August 22, 2025 (Friday)
  • Withdrawal of candidatures: August 25, 2025 (Monday)
  • Polling (if necessary): September 9, 2025 (Tuesday)
  • Counting of votes (if required): September 9, 2025 (Tuesday)
