Kangana Ranaut Defends SIR, Applauds PM Modi’s Stand on India-Pakistan Ceasefire

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut on Tuesday came out strongly in support of the Standard Identification Register (SIR) exercise and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on the India-Pakistan ceasefire, amid uproar from opposition benches in Parliament.

Addressing the media outside the Lok Sabha, Kangana said the SIR initiative is both constitutional and essential. “SIR is a very important exercise. The Congress party has done this 20 to 25 times during their tenure. Why is it suddenly an issue now?” she asked, responding to opposition protests branding the process as discriminatory.

Ranaut emphasized the purpose of the exercise, stating, “We should demand this from the government to identify those who do not have the right to vote. It’s about safeguarding the integrity of our electoral rolls. If it’s a constitutional exercise, then why are they protesting?”

She accused the opposition of politicizing routine administrative procedures for electoral gains. “They are simply opposing for the sake of opposing. If Congress found it necessary in the past, why should the BJP government be questioned now for doing the same?” she said.

The actor-turned-politician also backed PM Modi’s statement in Parliament on the India-Pakistan ceasefire issue, where the Prime Minister categorically stated that no foreign leader or power had intervened. “He gave a befitting reply to all those trying to mislead people,” Kangana said. “They openly challenged him to say that no one intervened — and PM Modi boldly said it in the House.”

She added, “This is the kind of clarity and strength we need in our leadership. No other country has the right to interfere in our bilateral matters, and the Prime Minister made that absolutely clear.”
