“Told US VP If Pakistan Attacks, It Will Pay Dearly”: PM Modi Defends Operation Sindoor, Slams Congress for Politicising Terror

New Delhi: In a fiery address during the Lok Sabha discussion on Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed a high-level diplomatic exchange and defended the military operation while strongly criticizing the Opposition for what he called “politicising terror.”

Sharing a crucial moment from the tense days following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, PM Modi said,“On the night of 9th May, the Vice President of America tried to talk to me. He tried for an hour, but I was in a meeting with my army, so I could not pick up his call. Later, I called him back.”

He continued, “The Vice President of America told me on the phone that Pakistan is going to launch a big attack. My answer was that if Pakistan has this intention, it will cost them a lot. If Pakistan attacks, we will respond by launching a big attack. This was my answer.”

On May 10, India officially announced the cessation of action under Operation Sindoor. Responding to speculation around the move, the Prime Minister said, “A lot of things were said here regarding this. This is the same propaganda that has been spread from across the border.”

Hitting back at the Congress for its reactions in the immediate aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, PM Modi accused the Opposition of exploiting the tragedy for political gains.

“Just 3–4 days after the 22nd April terrorist attack, they (Congress) started jumping up and down. They started saying, ‘Kahan gayi 56 inch ki chhati?’ ‘Kahan kho gaya Modi?’ ‘Modi has failed’… They were shaping their politics even in the murder of innocent people in Pahalgam.”

The Prime Minister also reaffirmed India’s current military doctrine regarding Pakistan,“Operation Sindoor is going on. Pakistan ne dussahas ki kalpana ki toh, usse karara jawab diya jayega.”
