New Delhi: Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MP Milind Deora on Wednesday highlighted the deep cultural connection between Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, while stressing the importance of mutual respect among India’s diverse regional identities. Speaking at a public event, Deora extended his support to Tamil MPs advocating for cultural preservation and emphasized Mumbai’s inclusive spirit.
“Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have much in common. We both are extremely passionate about our culture, about our language, about our music, about our theatre,” said Deora. “I understand all six MPs who have fought to preserve and strengthen Tamil culture. And on behalf of Maharashtra, I wish them my very best.”
Deora underlined that while both states take pride in their respective traditions, the essence of Indian unity lies in respecting the diversity of others. He drew upon Mumbai’s cosmopolitan nature to make a broader point about inclusiveness.
“Besides the commonality of our passion for our cultures, we are also respectful of other cultures. That is the sentiment which a city that I belong to, Mumbai, has. We welcome other cultures, but we ask that other cultures also respect our own,” he said.
