Mumbai: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, has voiced concern over the growing use of political power to enforce language policies. Reacting to recent developments, Wadettiwar stated, “If the Chief Minister wishes, he can implement any language. Why? Because tomorrow they may implement Gujarati, and then they might want Bhojpuri too—they will do whatever they want since they have the majority and power.”
Highlighting the importance of public sentiment, he further added, “But people’s emotions should not be hurt or disrespected, and this is a demand we can make to the Chief Minister.”
