26/11 Conspirator Tahawwur Rana Confesses to Role in Mumbai Attacks, Links to Pakistan Army and ISI Surface

Mumbai: In a chilling twist to the long-standing 26/11 Mumbai terror case, Tahawwur Hussain Rana — an accused conspirator in the 2008 attacks — has reportedly confessed to being present in Mumbai during the carnage and admitted his deep ties with Pakistan’s military establishment.

Currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail under the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Rana made several damning revelations during a recent interrogation led by Mumbai Crime Branch officials. According to a report by India Today, Rana has confirmed that he was a trusted operative of the Pakistani Army, and actively worked with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) — the terror group that executed the deadly siege on India’s financial capital.

Rana, a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, claimed that he and his associate David Coleman Headley underwent multiple training sessions with LeT in Pakistan. He further disclosed that the decision to establish an immigration consultancy in Mumbai was not a business venture, but a strategic cover to support the terror plot. Financial transactions for this operation were deliberately disguised as commercial expenses.

Investigators were also told that Rana conducted reconnaissance missions before the attacks — including visits to key targets like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), hinting at extensive groundwork months in advance.

In another startling claim, Rana revealed that he had previously served in Saudi Arabia during the Khaleej (Gulf) War on behalf of the Pakistani army, further establishing his longstanding ties with Islamabad’s military and intelligence networks. He also reportedly said the ISI coordinated the 26/11 attacks — a claim that, if substantiated, could further implicate state-backed actors in cross-border terrorism.

Mumbai Police is now preparing to formally arrest Rana and move him into their custody for further interrogation. His judicial remand, currently in effect, was extended by a Delhi court until July 9.

Rana was extradited to India from the United States earlier this year after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his review petition on April 4. He faces charges under various sections related to terrorism, criminal conspiracy, murder, and forgery.

The 26/11 Mumbai attacks — one of the worst terror strikes in Indian history — left 166 people dead and over 300 injured during a 60-hour siege across major city landmarks including the Taj Mahal Hotel, Oberoi-Trident, CST station, and Nariman House.
