Maharashtra ATS Raids Former SIMI Member Saqib Nachan’s Home in Padgha in Fresh Terror Probe

Thane: In a significant anti-terror operation, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) conducted multiple raids in Padgha area of Thane district. One of the key locations searched was the residence of Saqib Nachan, a former member of the banned outfit Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), who was previously convicted in two major terror cases — the 2002 Mumbai Central Railway Station blast and the 2003 Mulund train blast.

According to ATS, the raids were launched as part of a fresh investigation into possible renewed radical activities by individuals with a history of involvement in terrorism. Officials said Nachan has been under watch since his release from prison in 2017, following the completion of his sentence. Intelligence inputs suggested that he may have resumed contact with extremist circles or been involved in radicalising youth in sensitive areas.
