New Delhi: A fierce political storm erupted on Monday after BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya branded Congress MP Rahul Gandhi the “modern age Mir Jafar” for his recent remarks on Operation Sindoor and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, accusing him of playing into Pakistan’s hands and weakening India’s global stance.

Malviya alleged that Gandhi’s statements questioning the number of Indian aircraft lost during Operation Sindoor were not only misleading but were also being gleefully used by Pakistani media to build a false narrative against India. “This isn’t new. In the past as well, the Pakistani establishment has gleefully cited Rahul Gandhi’s statements… His words repeatedly serve as cover for those who sponsor cross-border terrorism,” Malviya posted on X, sharing a clip from a Pakistani news broadcast that used Gandhi’s comments.

The BJP leader also criticized Gandhi for not acknowledging India’s military successes and focusing only on losses. “Rahul Gandhi is the modern age Mir Jafar,” Malviya declared. “He never asks how many Pakistani jets were destroyed. Is political ambition more important than national duty? What’s next for Rahul Gandhi — the Nishan-e-Pakistan?”

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Dr. Krishank also lashed out at Gandhi, saying that his criticism served Pakistan’s narrative. He questioned Gandhi’s decision to publicly raise such concerns rather than discussing them in an all-party forum. “Do continue to ask questions, Rahul ji, but at the right time, right place so that it strengthens Indian voices, not its opponents,” Krishank advised.

Meanwhile, Gandhi stood firm on his claim that the Indian government had informed Pakistan about Operation Sindoor in advance — a statement categorically denied by the government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB).
